The non-secure
portion of the JAC serves youth ages 10-17 in Arapahoe, Douglas,
Elbert, and Lincoln counties.
Youth come
to the JAC in many ways, including:
- Self-referrals
- School
and court referrals
- Youth
who have concerning behavior at home
- Truant/suspended/expelled
students or those not showing commitment to school
- As a
result of parent/child conflict
- Youth
with mental health issues, including suicide and drug/alcohol
abuse
- In- and
out-of-state runaways
- Youth
ineligible for Foote Detention Center
- "No
more summons" youth
- Youth
with multiple municipal violations
- Youth
identified by law enforcement as having concerning/at-risk behavior
