  How the JAC Works

The non-secure portion of the JAC serves youth ages 10-17 in Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln counties.

Youth come to the JAC in many ways, including:

  • Self-referrals
  • School and court referrals
  • Youth who have concerning behavior at home
  • Truant/suspended/expelled students or those not showing commitment to school
  • As a result of parent/child conflict
  • Youth with mental health issues, including suicide and drug/alcohol abuse
  • In- and out-of-state runaways
  • Youth ineligible for Foote Detention Center
  • "No more summons" youth
  • Youth with multiple municipal violations
  • Youth identified by law enforcement as having concerning/at-risk behavior
